fabrikon the BVL's "Power of Logistics" initiative
The energy crisis has Germany firmly in its grip. There is a desperate search for new solutions to improve the supply of renewable energy. Yet there is a potential that has received little attention so far. The “Power of Logistics” initiative demonstrates how logistics can not only meet its own electricity needs but also advance the goal of energy self-sufficiency for municipalities and communities through extensive PV systems on warehouses, wind turbines in industrial parks, combined heat and power plants, and water-source heat pumps.
The new focus group aims to bring together logistics initiatives from across Germany as well as stakeholders from the logistics and logistics real estate sectors, with the goal of establishing logistics as a long-term provider of sustainable energy and jointly addressing the issue of the energy transition. The focus is on the topics of “expanding renewable energy” and “utilizing surplus capacity from the logistics sector.”
“We need to view the property as a whole. With optimized mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems combined with solar panels and heat pumps, we can not only meet but exceed ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) requirements. A significant portion of the property’s energy consumption occurs during its operational phase. Through intelligent metering and control of the systems, there is still significant untapped potential for savings on the consumption side. If we increase feed-in and reduce consumption, we can truly speak of a logistics hall as an energy power plant. That is the approach we are pursuing with ‘Power of Logistics,’” says Richard Schneider, Managing Director of fabrikon and a spokesperson for the “Power of Logistics” initiative.
For the launch of the new focus group, the BVL has succeeded in bringing on board fabrikon in addition to fabrikon the Logivest Group and RE.source Projects GmbH.
